After completing his articles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 2000, Clinton started his career in the mining and resources industry at Durban Roodepoort Deep as Group Corporate Finance Manager. In 2006, he joined Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd as Corporate Finance Manager where he managed the group’s corporate finance activities and new growth opportunities. He has had diverse experience in accounting and valuation, deal structuring (including BEE), M & A, equity raisings as well as the legislative processes relating to mining corporate finance. As a corporate finance specialist with skilled exposure to the mining industry, he co-founded To The Point Growth Specialists in 2007 with Bernard Swanepoel.

MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS

  • The creation of a Joint Venture Company between Boss Mining SPRL and Prairie International Limited to own, operate and develop the Mukondo Mountain Cobalt/Copper Mine (arguably the single richest cobalt mine in the world) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. (2008)
  • The acquisition by Central African Mining & Exploration Company Plc, of Prairies’ interest in the above Joint Venture, for shares amounting to 39.9% of its issued share capital (approximately GBP 422 million) (2008)


Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd:

  • Raising of a R2 billion loan facility by Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited from Nedbank in 2007
  • Issue of $75.4 million Preference Shares by Randfontein Estates Limited to Rand Merchant Bank in 2007
  • Raising of $68.6 million senior loan facility by Harmony from Rand Merchant Bank Limited
  • Sale of the Randfontein #4 Shaft to Simmer and Jack Ltd for R60 million in 2006
  • Disposal of Harmony’s Interest in GoldFields Limited in 2007 for $229.8 million
     

Durban Roodepoort Deep: 

  • Acquisition by Durban Roodepoort Deep of a 20% interest in the Porgera Joint Venture in Papua New Guinea for $77.1 million in 2003.
  • Issue of $66 million Convertible Senior Loan Notes by Durban Roodepoort Deep Limited in 2002
  • Various international equity raisings by Durban Roodepoort Deep from 2001 to 2004 totalling $179.6 million
  • Acquisition of a 45.4% interest in Australian listed Emperor Mines Limited by Durban Roodepoort Deep Limited from 2002 to 2004 for $25.9 million.
  • Raising of $10.4 million by Durban Roodepoort Deep Limited from the IDC to fund capital expenditures
  • Acquisition of ERPM by Crown Gold Recoveries Limited for $11 million in 2002.
  • Acquisition of 60% interest in Crown Gold Recoveries Limited by Kumo Buthong Holdings for $10.1 million in 2002 in a BEE Transaction.
